Avoiding Preventable Death in People with IDD Using the HRST: A Review of the Latest Mortality Research

For several years, Georgia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) has used the Health Risk Screening Tool (HRST) in its annual mortality report. In this webinar, we’ll briefly examine the latest report, its findings, and how you can use this data to avoid preventable, unnecessary deaths among those you support.
Craig Escudé, MD, is a Board Certified Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (FAAFP), the American Academy of Developmental Medicine (FAADM,) and a Fellow of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (FAAIDD). He is the author of “Clinical Pearls in IDD Healthcare” and “The Curriculum in IDD Healthcare”. Dr. Escude assumed the role as President of IntellectAbility in 2018.
Daleigh Tallent, MSN, RN, CDDN, began her nursing career in 2013 and entered the field of IDD in 2018, driven by her passion for advocacy, at-risk populations, and staff development. She held roles as a Regional Director, Lead IDD RN, and Developmental Disability Professional (DDP) for provider agencies offering community and residential services in Georgia. Daleigh joined IntellectAbility in 2021 as a Clinical Service Rep. In 2025, she assumed the role of Clinical Director.
