Join Craig Escudé, MD, FAAFP, FAADM, and Nanette R. Wrobel, BS, RPh, for an updated discussion about the most common preventable causes of illness and death in people with IDD and the medications that can both positively and negatively affect them.
Topics include identification, prevention, and medication management of Bowel Obstruction, Aspiration, Dehydration, Seizures, and Sepsis, plus Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD).
Webinar Outcomes
Attendees will be able to:
- Describe six of the conditions most likely to lead to morbidity and mortality in people with IDD, known as the Fatal Five+, enabling them to identify and mitigate risks associated with these conditions.
- Describe the medications used to treat the Fatal Five+ conditions: Aspiration, Bowel Obstruction, Dehydration, Seizures, and Sepsis, plus Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD).
- Describe the medications that could exacerbate the Fatal Five+ conditions, enabling them to identify and mitigate risks associated with these medications.
About the Presenters
Nanette R. Wrobel, BS, RPh
Nanette is a pharmacist educator who for 40 years has done training, education and speaking for physicians, nurses and other health professionals. She focuses on clinical health and medication education in the area of intellectual and developmental disabilities. Medication management, drug safety, treatment assessments, new drugs on the market and disease states are some of the many topics she has discussed for organizations all over the country.
She is one of the clinical resources for a national pharmacy, Tarrytown Expocare, specializing in providing medications and medication management to facilities across the United States who care for individuals with I/DD.
Craig Escudé, MD, FAAFP, FAADM
Dr. Craig Escudé, MD is a Board certified Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Academy of Developmental Medicine. He is the author of “Clinical Pearls in IDD Healthcare” and “The Curriculum in IDD Healthcare”. Dr. Escude assumed the role as President of IntellectAbility in 2018.
